School Reopening 2020-2021

NHCS is open under Plan C through the first grading period and will transition to Plan B  under the AA/BB model on October 12th.

Beginning on Monday, October 12 students in groups A and B will rotate in-person and remote attendance, with students in Group A attending on Monday and Tuesday and students in Group B attending on Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will be a remote learning day for all students. Group assignments will be communicated at the school level. Families who still want a full remote option will be able to participate in a 100% remote learning option.

Students with an Individualized Education Plan or IEP, and English language learner students, identified by our ESL programs as newcomers with two years or less in the US, will be invited to attend school for face to face instruction on days A and B, attending school, every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday will be a day of remote learning for all students.

Under Plan B, AA/BB schedule, there is no change to instruction for students enrolled in Virtual Academy. Families wanting to transition out of the Virtual Academy can do so at the end of the nine-week grading period for elementary and middle school students and at the end of the semester for high school students.

Building Social Distancing Features/Expectations
Under Plan B all students must adhere to the 3 W’s. This includes social distancing of 6 feet, wearing a cloth face covering, and washing their hands regularly. To assist your student in this transition we encourage you to begin preparing by sharing and practicing these expectations with them. We have included some resources below to assist you in this process.

Mask Presentation For Students
Hand Sanitizing Video and Hand Washing Video

In addition, school may also “look” differently than what students have become accustomed to.
This includes:

  • New traffic patterns in the hallways
  • Symptom screenings upon entry
  • No backdoor or library pick up
  • Staff wearing face coverings
  • Smaller class sizes
  • Keeping materials to self
  • Not touching others belongings
  • Remaining 6ft from others

School Arrival and Health Screening Procedures

We ask all parents/guardians to please note the following before school: Students should have their temperature taken daily before leaving for school. Students should not attend school if they have a fever.

Morning Drop Off-
School Buses: Families will complete and submit an attestation form that indicates that they will take their child’s temperature daily and that the child is symptom free. We recommend that a responsible adult or older sibling wait with elementary-age children at the bus stop. All bus riders will be required to wear a cloth face covering.

Car Riders: All car riders will be screened in their vehicles daily before exiting their car. We ask that students sit on the passenger side of the vehicle to assist with screening.

Bike Riders/Walkers: Bike riders and walkers will be screened upon their arrival on campus daily.

Afternoon Pick-Up-
Staff will be escorting students to the following pick up locations at 2:30 pm daily:

  • Bus Pick Up
  • Car Pick Up- We ask that you remain in your car and follow the traffic patterns in place.
  • Van Pick Up

*We will not be offering backdoor pick up or library pick up under Plan B. Students who walk or bike to school will be escorted to the front bike racks for dismissal. Families that are meeting their walker or biker will be asked to wait at a designated location near the secondary crosswalk. We ask families to practice social distancing at all times on campus including at pick up.
